Charming, simple doll is made of wood with jointed arms and legs. Doll is painted white from the shoulder up with very simple features. Her lower arms and legs below the knee joint are painted white too. Doll's nose is an applied angular wood chip. Doll is dressed in a beige brocade jacket with lace trim. Attached to the head is a hat made of real feathers, magenta ribbon and beige netting. Doll wears no pants or skirt.
This type of doll is known as a "Peg Wooden" or "Dutch" doll. Two such dolls were featured in a children's book published in 1895 called "The Adventures of Two Dutch Dolls" by Florence Kate Upton.
Doll measures 11 1/2" tall.
This peg wooden doll is clean. There are no breaks or missing parts. There are rubs to the white paint on doll's lower legs. Clothing may not be original but the fabrics appear to be vintage. No pants or skirt. Clothing has no tears, stains or fading. No smokey odors. The number "96" is written in black ink on the doll's right leg. Please inspect photos.
