GAIL WILSON MAKE YOUR OWN HITTY KIT CLOTH BODY WITH WOOD ARMS & LEGS
A complete kit to make a 6 1/2 inch Hitty doll with molded paper-mache head, cloth body and wooden arms and legs. The kit is in excellent condition except that the paint pots are probably dried up and may need to be replaced. The kit has never been used. Skill level is intermediate. Only the scale and the painting are challenges for some. Magnification really helps. Wood carving needs only an X-acto knife with a new blade. There is a very detailed 40 page booklet with patterns and color photos that explains exactly how to put the kit together.
Everything needed for supplies to make your own Hitty is included: paper-mache molded head, wooden arms and legs needing simple carving, A cheek painting kit with a special brush, other paints in small plastic pots and antiquing (I am including all the paints to show the proper colors but some of the paints are probably dried up since I purchased the Hitty kit from Gail Wilson about 5 years ago). Also included are sandpaper, toothpicks, cloth body fabric, wool stuffing, her real coral beads to make a necklace, white underwear and dress fabrics in a brown tiny print, drawstring waist ties, and tiny buttons. There is also a length of lace and instructions to make hand-made lace.
This kit by Gail Wilson is part of a series to make Hitty and her many outfits and accessories. (Only 1 kit to make your own Hitty doll is included in the auction). All of these designs are based on Gail Wilson’s interpretation of the historical Hitty, the fictitious Hitty from the book, and her own career in making small dolls and accessories to go with them.
Hitty is a real wooden doll brought to life by author Rachel Field and illustrator Dorothy Lathrop in the story they created. Hitty-Her First Hundred Years was published in 1929 and won the Newbery Medal.
