    Description

This nearly 8" appealing wooden doll was hand carved in Germany at the Lotte Sievers-Hahn studio which began its operations circa 1929.
This studio still produces wooden figures today.
Whether Lotte Sievers-Hahn actually carved this lovely lady or whether one of her artisans did, I do not know.
She still bears her tag on the lower front of her skirt.
She appears to be a vintage doll and possibly dates to the 1930's.
She is carved entirely of wood with arms that are attached by leather (?) tabs to her wooden torso.
Her neck remains stiff, though her legs are jointed at her thighs.
She is dressed in ethnic costuming which has discolored and become dusty with age and storage.  More notably discolored are the white portions of her outfit.
Her faded green felt cap has lost its feather accent.  Her
wooden parts have also dimmed with some soil and scuffing from age and storage.
Her head and facial detailing are simply though expressively hand carved and painted, and her "platinum" floss hair is styled in braids.
This lovely lady smells lightly of mildew, possibly from storage.
It is possible that this odor is due to the nature of the lime wood itself.
Lotte Sievers-Hahn learned her craft in the Erzgebirge area of Germany, and her creations reflect that tradition.
